Isabela Keyes is a character in Dead Rising, an action-adventure video game series created by the Japanese company Capcom. Keyes was first introduced as a supporting character in Dead Rising (2006). An important figure in the game's narrative, the character initially serves as an antagonist; however, Keyes eventually supports the player character Frank West, a journalist, in revealing the truth surrounding the zombie outbreak.
In an editorial for Dread Central, Marcos Codas praised Keyes' character development and story arc for elevating her to a multifaceted character instead of a one-dimensional villain: "Video games are often accused of being simple, predictable storytelling outings. But Isabela Keyes demonstrates, almost single-handedly, that Hispanic female protagonists can be a source of excellent material and character development when treated properly."[1] Writer Frederick Luis Aldama wrote that Keyes' characterization as being scientifically inclined is overshadowed by her depiction as a sexualized Latino.[2]
