Indy Reads is a non profit based in Indianapolis, IN. It began as an offshoot of the Indianapolis Public Library, and later became an independent non profit. It is a private non-profit organization that promotes literacy in Central Indiana. The organization was founded in 1984 as the Greater Indianapolis Literacy League by several librarians and a group of community activists. Their mission is to promote and improve the literacy of adults and families and make Indianapolis 100% literate.[1][2]

Services

Indy Reads provides programs that range from adult literacy to ESL. The organization has since expanded its programs outside of Marion County. There are now two satellite offices in Boone County and Hendricks County.

Indy Reads Books is an independent bookstore in downtown Indianapolis that serves as the revenue arm for Indy Reads. The bookstore hosts readings and workshops as well.[3][4]
