iBanFirst is a Belgian financial technology company headquartered in Brussels that provides cross-border payment and foreign exchange services for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Founded in 2013 under the name FX4Biz, the company operates across Europe and the United Kingdom under authorizations from the National Bank of Belgium and the UK's Financial Conduct Authority.

History

The company was established in 2013 as FX4Biz by Pierre-Antoine Dusoulier after obtaining a payment institution license from the National Bank of Belgium. In 2016, the firm rebranded as iBanFirst and completed a €10 million financing round, with investment from Xavier Niel.[1]

In November 2018, the company raised an additional €15 million in capital.[2] In 2019, iBanFirst acquired Dutch payment institution Nederlandsche Betaal & Wissel Maatschappij (NBWM)[3] and German foreign exchange provider Forexfix.[4]

In June 2020, iBanFirst completed a €21 million financing round led by Elaia.[5] In May 2021, American private equity firm Marlin Equity Partners acquired a controlling 51% stake in the company in a transaction that valued iBanFirst near €200 million.[6]

In June 2022, iBanFirst acquired UK currency broker Cornhill FX, extending its authorization to the British Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).[7]
