Ian Piña is a booking agent, promoter, musician, and producer. He is the brother of Marcus Piña (Peace, Love & Guitars.[1], Alta May[2], Count Foxy[3], The Press Corps[4], Stereo As A Lie[5], Wild Seeds[6])

Career

Ian founded IJP Promotions in East Anglia, UK, initially as the booking agent for the band Peace, Love & Guitars. He also organized shows at U.S. Air Force Base Lakenheath, England[7], with the help of George Terry, who handled the PA equipment. Notable acts included Lisa Dominique[8]. Later, he joined Permanent Artists, a record label associated with the late John Martyn, through an invitation from Samantha Fox’s booking agent. He organized a college tour for Balaam and the Angel and booked acts like Wishbone Ash. Additionally, he served as the exclusive booking agent for Huw Lloyd Langton (Hawkwind) during the Elergy tour. Working with Huw was a highlight, as he was a remarkable person to work with and to know.

Ian then moved to the Bron Agency, owned by Gerry Bron of Roundhouse Studios[9]. He shared the desk with Jon Vyner[10] (Camden Underworld) and Paul Adams[11] (Bang The Drum). In addition to booking more bands, he introduced Gig McKell of Peace, Love & Guitars, to Gerry Bron who then became their new manager. This led to the band’s publishing deal with Warner Chappell Music[12]. He shared booking assignments with Jon Vyner, who persuaded the band Badlands to come tour the UK. While there was friction, to say the least, between Jake E Lee and Ray Gillen, Ian handed the tour manager duties for Ray Gillen. As the time in the UK was coming to an end, Ian did get one album credit on the single Money, from the UK band Naughty Naughty[13], which featured Alex Lee from Tokyo Blade.

Ian then traveled across the pond to join Peace, Love & Guitars as a percussionist for their final shows, including a performance at Seattle’s Bumbershoot Festival. He later played drums for the garage pop band Wonderlux[14], which released the album “A Very Nervous Boy” produced by Steve Mack (That Petrol Emotion), and had the career highlight of performing on the Roseanne Barr talk show in Los Angeles. Following that, he joined the Seattle band Transient Songs, led by Texas native Jon Frum, and contributed to the album “Foreign Rooms,” co-produced by Gary Reynolds[15] of Electrokitty Studios. During this period, Ian also promoted other bands through web hosting and design.

During COVID, Ian collaborated with Kent Worthington of Wonderlux to form Electric85[16]. Agustin Ebbeke took on most of the guitar work. The band released several EPs before dropping the album “Oceans Away.” Afterward, Ian pursued additional projects under the name Flameproofmusic, working with John Hogg of Moke, Magpie Salute, and Roger Daltrey, as well as Chris Brown, known for producing The Allnighter[17]

Ian continues to produce music and visual art under his own name.
