Holbrook Chamberlain (died 1883)[1] was a shoe merchant, Baptist deacon, and philanthropist in the United States.[2] He lived in Brooklyn and helped the Baptist Free Mission Society establish Leland University in New Orleans, Louisiana.[3] The school was named after his wife's family name.[4][5] Baptist minister and abolitionist John Leland was part of the family.[2]
Izanina Leland Chamberlain was his wife.[6][7] The school had Collegiate, Theological, Normal, Industrial and Mechanical departments.[6]
Chamberlain continued to support the school and its building projects until his death. He left an endowment for the school and a professorship was to be named in his honor.[8]
