Gail Arakawa, also known as Galacta, Gali Girl, or simply Gali, is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. She is the perpetually pregnant asexual daughter of Galactus, having a tapeworm-like entity inside her body. Originally a minor character in the comics, Galacta received a resurgence in popularity following her appearance in the video game Marvel Rivals and its tie-in comic, where she appears as a supporting character and announcer and is voiced by Cassandra Lee Morris. Within the game's story, Galacta guides various heroes as they navigate the crises caused by a clash between heroic and villainous Doctor Dooms of alternate realities.

Publication history

She first appeared in Marvel Assistant-Sized Spectacular #2 in June 2009, in a story written by Adam Warren.[1] The idea of the 2-issue comics anthology was to allow assistant editors to try out different stories, this was followed by a vote to see which story was the most popular and Galacta won.[2] This was followed by her own eponymous mini-series, called Galacta, Daughter of Galactus, in 2010 on Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited.[2] The three seven-page stories, as well as the original nine-page one, were collected in a one-shot.[2][3]

The character was slated to reappear as a member of the Fearless Defenders, but was cut in what writer Cullen Bunn refers to as a "last minute change".[4][5]

In 2024, the character appeared in the comic book series Marvel Voices Infinity Comic, as well as Marvel Rivals Infinity Comic as a tie-in with the video game of the same name,[6] after appearing on a Fantastic Four variant cover by Peach Momoko with Jeff the Land Shark as her herald,[7] stolen away from Gwen Poole and Kate Bishop.[8][9] In 2025, Galacta returned in the ongoing series Marvel Rivals.[10]

In 2026, Galacta made her Earth-616 debut in the series Storm: Earth's Mightiest Mutant,[11] given the new civilian name Gail Arakawa after writers Gail Simone and Hiromu Arakawa.[12]

Fictional character biography

Gail "Gali" Arakawa, also known as Galacta, is the daughter of Galactus. However, she did not let her hunger for planets consume her like it did to Galactus and instead decided to live peacefully on Earth, in human form. She uses her powers secretly to protect Earth and its inhabitants from non-native organisms (such as alien viruses and living biological weapons) by consuming them. However, she finds that her hunger cannot be satisfied, and after analyzing herself, she discovers a cosmic creature equivalent to a tapeworm (dubbed the "Tapeworm Cosmic") inside her. After sending a message to her father for help, she goes in search of hostile alien lifeforms to satisfy her hunger.[13]

Powers and abilities

The character possesses similar powers to her father including use of the Power Cosmic, and Cosmic Awareness, although her abilities are not as powerful as her father's, expressing interest in using them to consume regular food and stay away from sexual encounters.[3] She is also capable of using advanced science and technology much like her father.

  • Galacta appears in Marvel Rivals, voiced by Cassandra Lee Morris,[15][16] serving as the game's announcer who within the narrative brings together a handful of timelines threatened by Doctor Doom so that she can feed on their Chronovium in lieu of eating planets like her father Galactus does.[17][18] In 2025, she received a new casual wear design for the one-year anniversary of Marvel Rivals.[19]
