Freji Jose (born 20 May 1987) is an Indian former track and field athlete from Kerala who specialized in sprinting events. He achieved national prominence as a junior athlete, becoming the fastest male sprinter at the Junior Federation Cup, and represented Kerala at the senior national level. Following his athletic career, he joined the Kerala State Archives Department, where he currently works.

Early life and education

Freji was born in Kerala. He pursued his early athletic training as a student at the G.V. Raja Sports School, which was located at Shangumukham, Thiruvananthapuram during his tenure. Under the school's sports development program, he competed in regional and zonal school athletic meets, demonstrating early versatility in both sprinting and jumping events, including the high jump.

Career

Freji transitioned primarily into short-distance sprinting, specializing in the 100 metres. At the 5th Federation Cup National Junior Athletic Championship held at Ernakulam in November 2005, Freji won the gold medal in the Boys' Under-20 100-metre sprint. Running on a heavily rain-soaked track, he clocked an official timing of 10.99 seconds, earning him recognition from World Athletics as the fastest male athlete of the meet.[1][2] Later that month, he improved his personal best to 10.96 seconds at the National Junior Athletics Championship in Madurai.

At the senior national level, Freji represented Kerala state at the 34th National Games held in Ranchi, Jharkhand, in February 2011. He ran as a member of the Kerala men's 4x100 metres relay team alongside teammates Shammer Mon, Anuroop John, and Abdul Najeeb. The team secured a podium finish, winning the bronze medal with a time of 40.77 seconds on 17 February 2011.[3][4]
