Firy Inc., formerly Skillz Inc., is an American technology company headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada. Founded in 2012 by Andrew Paradise and Casey Chafkin, the company originally operated the Skillz mobile gaming competition platform.[1][2]

The company became publicly traded in 2020 following a merger with Flying Eagle Acquisition Corp. In June 2026, Skillz Inc. changed its corporate name to Firy Inc., and its New York Stock Exchange ticker symbol changed from SKLZ to FIRY.[3]

History

Founding and early years

The company was founded in 2012 by Andrew Paradise and Casey Chafkin. It initially operated under the name Lookout Gaming before publicly launching as Skillz in 2013.[4]

Skillz developed a platform that allows third-party mobile game developers to incorporate competitive tournaments into their games. Rather than primarily developing its own games, the company provided technology for competitions in games developed by other companies.[2][1]

In 2017, Inc. published a profile of the company examining its founding, business model and growth.[5] Bloomberg Businessweek profiled Skillz and the development of competitive mobile gaming the following year.[1]

Public listing

In September 2020, Skillz agreed to merge with Flying Eagle Acquisition Corp., a special-purpose acquisition company associated with Harry Sloan and Jeff Sagansky. The transaction valued the combined company at approximately $3.5 billion when announced.[6]

The merger was completed in December 2020, after which Skillz became publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol SKLZ.[7]

Acquisitions

In 2021, Skillz acquired Aarki, a mobile advertising technology company. Aarki later changed its name to RZR in 2026.

In February 2026, Skillz acquired certain technology assets from Beamable, which develops backend and live-operations technology for video games.[8]

Name change to Firy

On June 18, 2026, Skillz Inc. changed its corporate name to Firy Inc. by filing an amendment to its certificate of incorporation in Delaware.[3]

The company's Class A common stock continued to trade on the New York Stock Exchange. Its ticker symbol changed from SKLZ to FIRY effective June 22, 2026, while its CUSIP remained unchanged.[3][9]

Following the name change, the company identified Skillz, RZR and technology acquired from Beamable among its operations.[10]

Operations

Firy's operations include Skillz, its mobile gaming competition business, and RZR, the advertising technology business formerly known as Aarki. The company also owns technology assets acquired from Beamable.[8]

Skillz provides technology that allows developers to incorporate competitive tournaments into mobile games.[2][1]

Litigation

Skillz has been involved in litigation concerning competition and advertising practices in mobile gaming.

In February 2024, a jury found that AviaGames had infringed patents held by Skillz and awarded Skillz $42.9 million.[11]

Skillz also brought litigation against Papaya Gaming concerning representations about the use of bots in games marketed as competitions between human players. In July 2026, a federal court ordered Papaya Gaming to pay more than $700 million in profits and additional fees to Skillz.[12]

Headquarters

The company is headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada. Skillz relocated its headquarters from the San Francisco Bay Area to Las Vegas in 2023.[13]
