Draft:Firoze Chinoy

Firoze Chinoy (also spelled Feroz Chinoy) was an Indian film director and producer active in the 1970s and early 1980s..[1] A graduate of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), he was known for directing suspense thrillers and urban dramas that often explored bold, contemporary themes.[2] His most notable works include the cult thriller Shaitaan (1974) and the suspense drama Kashmakash (1973).

Early life and education

Chinoy attended the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune during the late 1960s. His diploma film, And Unto The Void (1967)[3][4], featured then-student Shatrughan Sinha in a lead role. The short film received international acclaim, including a Certificate of Merit for "best imaginative treatment" at the Canadian Amateur Film Festival in 1970[5].

Career

Chinoy made his directorial debut with Do Raha (1971), a film produced by Ram Dayal. The movie featured FTII students such as Anil Dhawan, Radha Saluja, and Shatrughan Sinha. Do Raha was a box-office success and gained attention for its candid depiction of premarital sex and the influence of westernization on Indian youth. The film has an 8.6 rating on IMDB[6]

In 1973, Chinoy directed Kashmakash, a suspense thriller starring Feroz Khan, Rekha, and Shatrughan Sinha. The film was loosely based on the James Hadley Chase novel Tiger By The Tail. This was followed by Shaitaan (1974), a dark, provocative thriller about a serial killer targeting women. Starring Shatrughan Sinha as a police officer and Sharmila Tagore in a significant role, the film is remembered for its "pulpy" aesthetic and atmospheric cinematography.

After a hiatus from the industry, Chinoy directed his final feature film, Bad Aur Badnam (1984), an espionage drama starring Sanjeev Kumar and Shatrughan Sinha.
