Feather (legal name Popsure Deutschland GmbH) is a German insurance broker based in Berlin that sells insurance in English to expatriates. Its localised operations are in Germany, Spain and France,[1][2] and its international health insurance covers policyholders worldwide.[3] The company began in 2018 under the name Popsure and was later renamed Feather.[4]

History

Rob Schumacher and Vincent Audoire started the company in 2018 after taking part in the Entrepreneur First programme in Berlin. Schumacher had worked as a consultant at McKinsey & Company and holds a doctorate in actuarial science.[4][5] For its first years the company took no outside investment and reported about 30,000 customers by early 2022.[4]

In April 2022 Feather raised €3.8 million in a round led by Taavet Hinrikus, co-founder of Wise, with several other angel investors.[5] It began operating outside Germany with a launch in Spain in 2023, and in June 2024 raised a further €6 million in a round led by Keen Venture Partners, by which time it reported about 50,000 customers.[2] In 2025 the company appointed managers to lead its operations in France and Spain.[6][1]

Operations

Feather works as an insurance broker, selling policies that are underwritten by partner insurers rather than carrying the risk itself.[1] It is listed in the German intermediaries register (Vermittlerregister) under the number D-E6HJ-UVL9S-62.[7] Its products for individuals include health, dental, liability, household contents, pet and life insurance.[1] In 2025 the company introduced insurance for businesses with international staff and, in Spain, a car insurance product sold together with Allianz, Helvetia and VHV.[8][9]
