FAL AI (founded in 2021) is an American technology company that develops cloud-based infrastructure for generative artificial intelligence, enabling developers and enterprises to build image, video, and audio generation tools. The company is headquartered in San Francisco, California.[1][2]

History

FAL AI was founded in 2021 by Burkay Gur and Gorkem Yurtseven, former engineers at Coinbase and Amazon.[3][4] The company started by hosting open-source models and providing developers with easy access to AI tools via API and cloud infrastructure, later shifting toward generative media inference. In 2024, FAL AI began supporting real-time video generation and live video editing.[5]

In September 2024, FAL AI raised $23 million in a combined seed and Series A round led by Andreessen Horowitz and Kindred Ventures.[6] In February 2025, the company amassed $49 million in Series B funding led by Notable Capital, bringing its total funding to $72 million.[7] By mid-2025, the company had raised $125 million in Series C funding, valuing it at $1.5 billion.[8]

The company raised $140 million in Series D funding led by Sequoia Capital, with participation from NVIDIA’s NVentures and Kleiner Perkins, valuing the company at $4.5 billion, in December 2025.[2][9]

Operations

FAL AI enables developers to deploy generative artificial intelligence models through a unified application programming interface (API). The platform supports more than 600 models and runs on high-performance GPUs. Customers access the models via API, server-less deployments, or enterprise-ready clusters.[10]

Its infrastructure includes: a real-time inference engine, a catalog of pre-trained multimodal models accessible through a unified API endpoint, and serverless GPU resources. The platform also provides developer tools compatible with programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, and Swift, and integrates with AI development frameworks including Vercel’s AI SDK.[3][11]

FAL AI operates on a usage-based, “pay-as-you-go” revenue model. Customers are billed either by output generated (such as per image or per second of video) or by GPU compute time consumed. Pricing for hosted models is typically output-based and varies by resolution and computational complexity, while custom deployments may be billed per inference or per hour of GPU usage. In addition to its self-service platform for individual developers, the company has reported enterprise agreements with technology firms including Adobe, Canva, Perplexity, Shopify, and Quora. According to Bloomberg, in late 2025, the company's annual revenue reached more than $200 million.[12]
