Edward Chisholm is a British writer known for his autobiographical[1] work A Waiter in Paris: Adventures in the Dark Heart of the City (2022), which was shortlisted for the 2023 Ackerley Prize. His 2026 book, Murder in Paris: A True Story of Death and Glamour, explores the Markovic Affair and its cultural and historical context.[2][3]

Chisholm was born in England. After graduating from SOAS University of London,[4][5] he moved to Paris, ambitious to be a writer and learn French.[1][4][6] He worked at a bistro on the Seine,[3] fictionalized in his book as Le Bistrot de la Seine,[6] which was published in English as A Waiter in Paris (2022).[7][8] In the book, he described his experiences of a Paris that tourists don't get to see.[6][2][9][10] Chisholm wrote that it was "frequently humiliating and incredibly competitive. A world hiding in plain sight governed by archaic rules and a petty hierarchy—populated by the most incredible cast of characters you'll ever come across."[6] As a freelance journalist, his articles have been printed in The New York Times, The Guardian, and The Financial Times.[5][11]

In April 2026, The Hollywood Reporter reported that A Waiter in Paris would start production for a feature film, starring Clémence Poésy and Leo Woodall.[12] Cornerstone Films bought the rights to make the film, which will be financed by BBC Film, Curzon Cinemas, and Cinéart.[12]

As of 2023, Chisholm lived in Geneva, Switzerland with his French partner and young son.[13]
