A Direction lock is a mechanical or electrical locking mechanism which is designed to be opened by someone inputting the correct sequence of movements. These movements are normally inputted by a free moving joint that can be pushed into 4 directions[1].
These locks are most commonly used in puzzles like escape rooms[2] however they are still less commonly used for security use[3]. They are commonly believed to be unreliable when entering correct combinations and resetting the combination to try again to the point of escape room hosts warning guests[4]
