Dean Roy (born 2011) is an American politician running in the 2026 Vermont gubernatorial election. Aged 14, he is currently the youngest candidate to appear on the state's general election ballot.[1][2][3][4][5] Roy formed the Liberty and Unity Party to run in the election.[1][5]
Dean Roy was born and raised in Stowe, Vermont.[1] He is currently a freshman at Stowe High School.[5] Roy previously worked as a legislative page at the Vermont State House.[2][1][3][5] Roy does not identify as a Republican or a Democrat and instead said the biggest issues facing the state is housing and affordability.[1][3][5]
Roy announced his candidacy for Governor of Vermont in an Instagram video posted on November 11, 2025.[4] Due to Vermont not having a minimum age for gubernatorial candidates, the only requirement is to have resided in the state for at least four years.[1] Roy said that his main goal is not to win the election, but to inspire other young people to get involved in politics.[5]
Roy's platform is centered on affordability and a smaller state government. He also pledges to lower the tax rates for families and small businesses. His main agenda is to pursue housing reforms and oppose Governor Phil Scott's EV mandate. He has also said that he is a 2nd Amendment supporter.[4] Roy supports lowering the voting age to 16 and increasing the influence of America's youth in politics.
