Databox is a business analytics and dashboard software company headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, United States, with a product development office in Ptuj, Slovenia. The company's platform lets businesses connect data from third-party tools and visualize it through dashboards and automated reports.[1]

History

The company was founded in 2012 as Zeppelin by Davorin Gabrovec and Vlada Petrović,[2] before being renamed Databox.[3] The company took part in the 2012 Techstars Boston accelerator program.[1][3][4]

In November 2014, Forbes contributor Ben Kepes reviewed the launch of Databox's enterprise product, describing a platform with connectors to cloud services such as Salesforce, Xero, and Omniture as well as on-premise sources including Hadoop and various databases, while questioning whether the offering constituted a full analytics solution or primarily a visualization layer.[5]

By May 2015, Databox had disclosed $3.7 million in prior equity funding from investors including Founder Collective and Atlas Venture.[3] In September 2015, the company raised an additional $3.3 million seed round led by Founder Collective, with participation from Accomplice.[1][6][4] The company kept its product development team based in Ptuj, Slovenia, while operating its headquarters and go-to-market functions from Boston.[2][4] Early customers included Staples, Converse, Comcast, and CVS.[4]

The company later raised a Series A round.[7]

Products

Databox's core platform allows users to connect data from more than 100 software tools, databases, and spreadsheets, and to build dashboards, automated reports, and performance scorecards.[1] The platform includes tools for preparing and merging datasets, tracking metrics and key performance indicators, setting goals, and generating forecasts and benchmarks.[8]

In 2026, Databox introduced Genie, a conversational AI feature that lets users ask questions about their data in natural language.[8] The company also released Databox MCP, a server built on Anthropic's open Model Context Protocol that allows AI assistants such as Claude and tools including Cursor and n8n to query a user's Databox data directly.[9] Databox additionally operates a Skills Marketplace, through which users can add pre-built reporting and analysis templates ("skills") to Genie.[9]
