Daniel Mathew Fine (born 1958), is a technology entrepreneur, philanthropist and film producer. He is the founder and executive director of Ukraine War Animals Relief Fund and was a pioneer in technology consulting and AI.[1] He is known for his work in animal rescue and raising awareness of the spread of rabies in Ukraine[2][3], he is also known for producing the documentary film War Tails.[4]
Career
Before forming Ukraine War Animals Relief Fund, Daniel M. Fine was an early pioneer in web design and digital advertising.[5] In the mid-1980s he joined advertising executives Dick Hadley and John Kobasic to form Kobasic, Fine, Hadley Advertising.[6] In 1994, Dan founded Fine.com, a web design and development company.[7]
Fine.com was the first company to officially register a business name with a 'dot com' as part of the name, not just a domain name.[8] The company went public on NASDAQ in 1997 and was later acquired by Aris Corporation in 1999[9][10].
He co-founded Bot, Inc., also registered as Bot.Net, Inc.. in 2000, pioneering intelligent agent software powered by AI and ontology.[11] Fine and his partners at Bot.Net were granted one of the first patents for AI powered agent technology in March 2001. [12]
In 2004, Dine started Fine Solutions, a Microsoft Dynamics systems integrator and 9-time Inc 500/5000 company.[13][14] In 2017, he sold Fine Solutions to Encore Business Solutions.[15][16]
Throughout his career Dan was called up on as an expert on internet, the growth of the technology industry and early AI technologies. He appeared regularly on local and national news including ABC World News Tonight with Peter Jennings[17], Seattle's KIRO News[17], KOMO News[18] and NW News.[19]
Dan Fine was awarded Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 1999.[19]
Philanthropy
In response to the humanitarian crisis caused by the war in Ukraine, Fine established the Ukrainian War Animals Relief Fund (UWARF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing and providing medical treatment for homeless animals affected by the war.[20] [21]The organization has been recognized for its efforts in saving and rehoming animals. It created a grass roots effort to push for sterilization and vaccination to prevent the massive growth and the spread of rabies due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the abandonment of over a million pets.[22][23]
Fine has also been involved with various animal welfare initiatives and serving on boards such as P.A.W.S., Vancouver Humane Society[24], Pet Partners, Reading with Rover, DogsnHomes[25] and Paws with Cause. Additionally, he has worked as a therapy dog volunteer, visiting senior homes, schools and libraries with his dogs.
In 2024, Fine produced the documentary film War Tails.[26]
