Bingz (Chinese: 西少爷; pinyin: Xishaoye), also known as Bingz Crispy Burger, is a Chinese fast-food chain specializing in roujiamo-style crispy burgers. The company originated as Xishaoye in Beijing in 2014 and later expanded overseas under the Bingz brand.[1][2]
The first Xishaoye restaurant opened in Beijing's Wudaokou area in April 2014.[3] Economic Daily described the early company as combining restaurant operations with internet-industry methods, with a core team that included people from Baidu, Tencent, McDonald's and KFC.[3]
In April 2015, Beijing Youth Daily, republished by China Economic Net, reported that Xishaoye had opened five restaurants in Beijing and had received investments from Tsinghua Science Park and Capital Today.[4] By December 2016, Jiemian, republishing a Huxiu feature, reported that Xishaoye operated 15 restaurants in Beijing and had completed a Series B financing round led by Hony Capital.[5]
Xishaoye later adopted Bingz as its overseas-facing brand name. The Economic Observer reported in 2024 that the company had announced the global Bingz brand and an internationalization strategy in 2018.[2]
Bingz opened its first store in Toronto, Canada, in 2021.[1] China Daily reported in March 2023 that Bingz had four stores in Canada, had set up a factory in Ontario, and was preparing for launches in the United States and Singapore.[1] Ottawa Life Magazine also covered the brand's Markham launch in 2021, reporting that the company had expanded from Beijing to the Greater Toronto Area.[6]
In April 2024, EqualOcean reported that Bingz had completed an angel financing round in the United States and planned to develop company-owned stores in California.[7] The Economic Observer and 36Kr reported the same month that Xishaoye's North American expansion plans included a central factory in San Diego and company-owned stores in California, while also noting that the company's first United States store had not yet opened at that time.[2][8]
Chinese and international media have discussed Bingz in the context of Chinese fast-food chains, internet-influenced restaurant brands, and Chinese restaurant brands expanding overseas. The World of Chinese described Bingz as one of several Chinese fast-food brands that rose through internet-era attention around traditional foods, while also discussing later pricing and product-quality debates around such brands.[9] The Economic Observer similarly described Xishaoye as an internet-era restaurant brand that remained commercially active while facing public debate over expansion, pricing, taste and business model.[2]
