BESPER is a six-member Japanese band formed in 2020. They are characterized by an urban sound that fuses a wide range of genres, including City Pop, AOR, and Acid Jazz.[1]
History
The group was formed in Chiba Prefecture in 2020, centered around high school classmates ARARIKU and SEREN; SHINJIRO, a junior from their high school, joined as the vocalist.Following the departure of former members, HAT, TAPPEI, and HINATA joined in July 2023, establishing the current six-member lineup.[2]

BESPER released its early recordings independently and continued to expand its live activities. In 2024, the band held its own event at Shinjuku LOFT, where it was described by music publication Rooftop as a six-member band influenced by AOR and city pop.[3]
In 2025, BESPER released REBUILD, a re-recording of songs from its earlier period with the current lineup. The band also performed its first one-man concert in Osaka on December 5, 2025; the concert was sold out. SPICE published a detailed report of the performance and described the band's music as rooted in 1970s and 1980s AOR and soul music.[4]
In September 2025, BESPER performed at the Inazuma Rock Festival.[5] They released their first studio album, Plan C, in August 2026, [6]and performed at Summer Sonic in the same month.[7]
Musical style
BESPER's music draws on city pop, AOR, soul, and acid jazz. The band has described its approach as part of a broader lineage of urban music extending from 1970s new soul through AOR, disco, new jack swing, and acid jazz.[8][9]
The band's sound has also been described by Rooftop as being influenced by AOR and city pop.[10]
