Andrew Ryan Rupnow (born September 8, 1981) is an American entrepreneur and inventor. He founded OMNI Solutions LLC, a commercial laundry sanitation technology company, and holds several patents in the United States, Europe, China, and Hong Kong related to laundry sanitation and water treatment.
Rupnow was born on September 8, 1981, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to James C. Rupnow and Barbara Ann Buresh.[1] He attended the Milwaukee Conservatory of Music from 1997 to 1999 and later attended the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and the University of Wisconsin–Madison.[1]
In the mid-2000s, Rupnow performed as a drummer in Madison, Wisconsin, playing in two local rock bands, Skip the Middle Man and The Atomic Blue.[2][3] Skip the Middle Man released a self-titled EP in 2006 and was nominated for "Artist of the Year" in the rock category at the 2007 Madison Area Music Awards.[2] Rupnow stopped performing music around 2010.
Around 2005, after encountering ozone-based sanitation technology, Rupnow founded The Ozone Co. in Stoughton, Wisconsin, a company that developed ozone-based commercial laundry systems.[4] The company launched a line of ozone-based washing machines called EcoWash in 2010, and by 2011 had grown to 11 employees with sales offices in the United States and Puerto Rico.[4]
Rupnow founded OMNI Solutions LLC in Baraboo, Wisconsin, which launched commercially in 2015.[1] The company developed UV light and hydroxyl radical-based systems for sanitizing laundry in commercial and healthcare settings.[1] Within five months of its commercial launch, the company signed a contract with a California medical supply company for approximately 8,000 installations.[1]
In September 2017, Ecolab Textile Care signed an exclusive global agreement with OMNI Solutions to use the company's ultraviolet water treatment system in commercial laundries.[5]
In April 2023, Gurtler Industries acquired rights to OMNI Solutions' tunnel-washer ultraviolet technology, known as the Smart Ultraviolet Light Advanced Oxidation System (SULAOS), for use in the tunnel-washer market.[6] OMNI Solutions received the Textile Rental Services Association's Clean Green Innovation Award in 2020.[7]
Rupnow holds multiple patents in the United States, Europe, China, and Hong Kong related to ozone and hydroxyl radical injection systems for laundry machines, recirculating water sanitizer modules for tunnel washing systems, and automated sanitization systems for laundry transport slings. U.S. patents include 10208420, 10801151, 11384468, 11702785, 12104307, 10344416, 12024808, 11198968, 11655581, 12163270, and 11331398. International patents include EP3322674B1, CN109562960B, EP3624934B1, CN109415864B, and HK40005583.[8]
