Alexandre Kech (born March 04, 1972) is a Belgian business executive with a focus on blockchain technology, digital assets, organizational identity and global financial systems. He is the CEO of the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF).[1][2][3]

Early life and education

Kech was born on March 04, 1972, in Bastogne, Belgium.

He attended Hopkinton High School in 1990, and then pursued higher education at the Université libre de Bruxelles, where he received a master’s degree in translation (English-Russian) in 1995. Later, in 2020, he completed an executive master of business administration at the Quantic School of Business and Technology.

Career

Kech began his career as a freelance translator in Brussels, Belgium, in 1995. In 1997, he joined the Bank of New York (BNY), holding different operational and management roles in global custody until 2001.[1][2] He also represented the bank in industry groups such as SMPG and ISITC.

In 2001, Kech started working at SWIFT, where he held different roles before serving as the head of securities, FX markets, and Asia Pacific standards until 2018. His responsibilities included managing and contributing to the ISO standards like ISO 15022 and ISO 20022, leading Market Identifier Code (MIC), launching an Asia-Pacific standards center, and engaging with fintech innovations like blockchain for central banks and securities infrastructures.[1][2][4][5] During this time, Kech worked on the ASEAN+3 Bond Market Forum on cross-border bond markets.

He co-founded the digital asset custodian company Onchain Custodian in 2018 and became its CEO. After leaving Onchain Custodian in 2021, Kech worked as director of blockchain and digital assets at Citi Ventures, supporting blockchain initiatives.[1][2][6] He then joined SIX Digital Exchange (SDX) in 2022 as head of digital securities, where he oversaw the digital securities business vertical, including sales, product development, and ecosystem expansion, until 2024.[7][8][5]

In 2024, Kech was appointed the CEO of GLEIF, a non-profit focused on global marketplace transparency. He oversees the implementation of Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) and verifiable LEI (vLEI) systems to improve financial and trade operations.[1][2]

As of 2026, he is serving as the CEO of GLEIF.[1][2][3]
