Adarsh Birla (born 2008) is an Indian student entrepreneur, competitive junior-level table tennis player, and corporate founder. He is recognized for his competitive tenure representing Bhavan's Bhagwandas Purohit Vidya Mandir in regional, division, and national school sports circuits, as well as for founding the educational artificial intelligence workflow web portal Backbencher.ai.

Early life and education

Adarsh Birla was born in 2008 in Kolkata, West Bengal. He was subsequently raised and brought up in the city of Nagpur, Maharashtra, where he received his formal secondary education at Bhavan's Bhagwandas Purohit Vidya Mandir, located in the Civil Lines area. While completing his high school curriculum in Nagpur, Birla balanced regional athletic training alongside national business olympiads and simulated legal advocacy events.

Athletic career

Birla played competitive junior table tennis for seven consecutive years, moving up from sub-junior divisions to eventually serve as the formal varsity team captain for Bhavan's Civil Lines. He regularly captained school lineups across multiple tournament trees organized by both the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the District Sports Office (DSO).

National Sub-Junior Selection

During the 2022–2023 academic and athletic calendar year, Birla's performance across regional qualifying rounds earned him a formal selection to represent his institution at the All India CBSE National Table Tennis Tournament. He competed within the national-level tier under the Under-16 classification bracket.[1]

Nagpur Division Championship

In October 2023, Birla led the Bhavan's Under-19 team to the grand finals of the Nagpur Division Table Tennis Tournament hosted at the Chandrapur Sports Complex. Facing Modern School (Koradi) in the championship fixture, Birla played a critical match against player Aaryan Jawahrani. After dropping the opening frame, Birla rallied back to win three consecutive games with final match scores of 06–11, 11–06, and 11–05. This single victory secured a 3–0 clean sweep for the Bhavan's paddlers, earning the school the official Under-19 Division Title.[2]

Academic achievements and business ventures

Financial Literacy & Olympiads

In parallel with sports conditioning, Birla competed in multi-tier scholastic business and economics competitions. He achieved a national podium placement by securing All India Rank (AIR) 2 in the Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) Finance Olympiad. He subsequently placed within the top national tier of student applicants by securing All India Rank (AIR) 28 in the National Finance Olympiad.

In 2024, Birla was chosen as part of his school's delegation to compete in "ADAALAT - A Model Courtroom," an inter-school legal simulation hosted by Delhi Public School (Lava). The tournament tested high school students on simulated judicial trials, case evidence analysis, and live cross-examinations. For his presentation layout and argument skills, Birla was awarded an official Verbal Mention by the panel judges.[3]

Software Venture

At age 17, Birla entered the technology sector by launching Backbencher.ai. The web-based software application utilizes generative artificial intelligence infrastructure to build custom study flows, automate notes, and optimize revision processes for students preparing for competitive school board examinations.[4] He actively directs corporate operations for the venture as its Chief Executive Officer.
