2N Telecommunications (Czech: 2N Telekomunikace) is a Czech manufacturer of IP intercoms and access control technology.[2] The company develops door communication, indoor stations, IP access control readers, elevator systems, and software designed to aid installation, configuration and management.[3]
In 2008, 2N became the first company in the world to launch an IP intercom.[4][5] Since 2016, it operates as an independent subsidiary of Axis Communications.[6]
2N was founded in 1991 in Prague, Czech Republic, by Hanuš Brychta, Miroslav Hofman, and Roman Pihan. The company name derives from the two letter “N”s in the name of Na Nivách street, where the company was established.[7] In its first years, 2N focused on developing telephone exchanges.[8] From 1991 to 1998, the company operated solely within the Czech and Slovak markets. In 2000, 2N was made into a joint-stock company.[9]
During the following decade, it expanded internationally, and in 2011 it opened its first branch in the United States. Since then, about 90% of the company's production is exported outside of the company's manufacturing and operational base in the Czech Republic.[10]
2N develops and manufactures access control and communication systems for residential and commercial buildings. Its products include IP intercoms, access readers, electronic locks, indoor stations, elevator emergency communication system, and related software for configuration, remote management, and integration with other building and security systems.[3]
The company's access control products support several keyless entry methods, including RFID cards, PIN codes, QR codes, mobile credentials and biometric integrations. 2N has also introduced smartphone-based access technology under the name WaveKey.[11]
Another part of the company's business is elevator emergency communication technology. Supporting analog, digital, and IP-based technologies, 2N' tech uses a two-wire solution.[12]
2N products have received design awards including the Red Dot Design Award and the iF Product Design Award.[13][14]
