The 1776 Organization is a nonprofit initiative that describes itself as “We the People,” focusing on empowering citizens through civic engagement and constitutional dialogue in the United States. The organization aims to provide a structured framework for exploring the pathway for a new constitutional convention, that includes deliberation and ratification as part of the process. It emphasizes public participation, transparency, and collaboration as core principles guiding its activities.[1]
The organization was established in 2025 by a group of concerned American citizens seeking to examine whether the U.S. Constitution should be modernized to address contemporary challenges. Drawing inspiration from the nation’s founding ideals and the historical legacy of 1776, the group formed to promote nationwide discussion about constitutional reform and civic responsibility. Its vision is influenced in part by the democratic ideals expressed by Abraham Lincoln, particularly the concept of a government that belongs to and serves its people. [1]
The mission of the 1776 Organization is to engage Americans in meaningful dialogue about the future of their constitutional system and to restore confidence in the nation’s foundational principles. The group seeks to define the scope and process of a potential constitutional convention by gathering citizen input, guided by a nationwide volunteer advisory panel and consensus among registered voters.[2] It promotes open and transparent processes to encourage public trust and participation, with the long-term goal of producing a framework so that a new constitutional document could be ratified directly by a significant majority of voters. Collaboration across communities and diverse viewpoints is emphasized as essential to shaping the future of the American democratic republic.[1]
