American politician from New York City
Claire Valdez is an American politician from New York City.[1] She is serving in the New York State Assembly representing the 37th District since 2025. A Democrat, she represents part of Queens.
Career
Valdez serves as a program assistant in the visual arts program at Columbia University.[2] She is a unionist with the United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America International Union and is an activist with the Democratic Socialists of America.[3][4]
In the 2024 New York State Assembly election, Valdez was a candidate in the 37th district. In the Democratic Party primary, Valdez defeated incumbent Juan Ardila by 27 percentage points.[5] She was endorsed by Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and had the support from the Working Families Party.[6][7] She ran unopposed for the seat in the November general election.
Personal life
Valdez moved to New York City from Texas in 2019 and lives in Ridgewood, Queens.[8][9] She is of Latino descent.[10]
