Robert Calvin Butler (born May 28, 1959) is an American former professional football player who was a cornerback for the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League (NFL). Butler played college football for the Florida State Seminoles and was selected in the first round of the 1981 NFL draft by the Falcons. He played 12 seasons in the NFL, all with the Falcons, retiring after the 1992 season.[1]

Butler was inducted into the Seminoles' Hall of Fame in 1987.[2]

Personal life

Butler has a wife named Cyrillyn and four sons:[2] Brenton, Brice, Brelan, and Brandel. Brenton played basketball for the Fordham Rams and later played professional basketball in Berlin, Germany, for RSV Eintracht Stahnsdorf. Brice played several seasons as a wide receiver in the NFL. Brelan is an accomplished video editor and still/film photographer.

In 2017, Butler completed his degree in social science from Florida State University, 37 years after leaving the school for the NFL.[1][2]
