• July 25 – Nguyễn Trường Tô was expelled from the Communist Party of Vietnam for having "unhealthy relationship" with a prostitute.^[1]
• August 4 – Phạm Thanh Bình [vi] was arrested because Vinashin owed 86 trillion đồng.^[2][3]
• August 19 – Ngô Bảo Châu won the Fields Medal, becoming the first Vietnamese to win this medal.^[4]
• October 1–10 – Millennial Anniversary of Hanoi.^[5]
