Ο φεμινισμός πρώτου κύματος αναφέρεται στο φεμινιστικό κίνημα του 19ου αιώνα και των αρχών του 20ού. Ο όρος δε χρησιμοποιήθηκε κατά τη διάρκεια του κινήματος - επινοήθηκε μεταγενέστερα, αφού είχε ξεκινήσει να χρησιμοποιείται ο φεμινισμός δεύτερου κύματος για να περιγράψει ένα νεότερο κίνημα.

Το πρώτο κύμα του φεμινισμού εστίαζε πρωταρχικά στη νομοθετική κατοχύρωση στοιχειωδών δικαιωμάτων για τις γυναίκες, με αιχμή του δόρατος τη συμμετοχή στις εκλογές. Από το τελευταίο, οι υποστηρίκτριες του κινήματος ονομάστηκαν σουφραζέτες (από την αγγλική λέξη suffrage που σημαίνει το δικαίωμα ψήφου).

Στους διαπρέποντες ηγέτες του κινήματος συμπεριλαμβάνονταν οι Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony και η πιο ριζοσπαστική Βικτόρια Γούντχαλ που έθεσε παράτυπα υποψηφιότητα στις προεδρικές εκλογές.

Στις ΗΠΑ, το τέλος του φεμινισμού πρώτου κύματος μπορεί να θεωρηθεί το πέρασμα της Δέκατης Ένατης Τροποποίησης στο Σύνταγμα των ΗΠΑ, που ήταν η μεγάλη νίκη του κινήματος.
