Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Φιλοσοφίας

Η Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Φιλοσοφίας εορτάζεται κάθε χρόνο την τρίτη Πέμπτη του Νοεμβρίου. Με την καθιέρωση αυτής της Ημέρας, η UNESCO υπογραμμίζει τη διαχρονική αξία της Φιλοσοφίας για την ανάπτυξη της ανθρώπινης σκέψης, για κάθε άτομο, σε κάθε πολιτισμό. Η UNESCO είναι πάντα στενά συνδεδεμένη με τη φιλοσοφία, όχι τη θεωρητική  ή κανονιστική φιλοσοφία, αλλά την κριτική διερεύνηση που δίνει νόημα στη ζωή και δράση σε διεθνές επίπεδο.

Η Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Φιλοσοφίας καθιερώθηκε επίσημα από την UNESCO το 2002[1]: η Γενική Συνέλευση της UNESCO τόνισε τη σημασία της Φιλοσοφίας, ιδιαίτερα για τους νέους ανθρώπους, ως ένα δρόμο «για την ανάπτυξη της κριτικής και ανεξάρτητης σκέψης με γνώμονα την καλύτερη κατανόηση του κόσμου και την προώθηση της ανεκτικότητας και της ειρήνης.»  Με την καθιέρωση της Παγκόσμιας Ημέρας Φιλοσοφίας, επιδιώκεται η θεσμοθέτηση της Φιλοσοφίας και η αναγνώρισή της όσον αφορά στην καλλιέργεια του ατόμου, προκειμένου να προωθηθεί περαιτέρω η διδασκαλία της σε παγκόσμια επίπεδο.
