Ο Νταν Σπιτζ (πλήρες όνομα "Daniel Alan Spitz", 28 Ιανουαρίου 1963) είναι Αμερικάνος κιθαρίστας της χέβι μέταλ μουσικής, γνωστός ως κιθαρίστας του συγκροτήματος Anthrax από το 1983 ως το 1995 και από το 2005 ως το 2007.

Βιογραφία

Ο Σπιτζ γεννήθηκε στην κομητεία Ρόκλαντ, προάστιο της Νέας Υόρκης, από γονείς εβραϊκής καταγωγής. Ο πατέρας του ήταν δικηγόρος και η μητέρα του καθηγήτρια λυκείου, ενώ ο αδελφός του ασχολήθηκε επίσης, με την μουσική, όντας μπασίστας για τα συγκροτήματα των White Lion και των Black Sabbath. Επηρεασμένος από τον αδελφό του, ο Σπιτζ ξεκίνησε να παίζει κιθάρα όταν ήταν μαθητής γυμνασίου και όταν πήγε στο κολέγιο, αποφάσισε να σταματήσει τις σπουδές του ένα χρόνο αργότερα για να ενταχθεί στους Anthrax.

Με τους Anthrax κυκλοφόρησε έξι στούντιο άλμπουμ, εκ των οποίων τα τέσσερα έγιναν χρυσά και μπήκαν στο Top-100 του Billboard και το Top-20 στην Μεγάλη Βρετανία. Το συγκρότημα καθιερώθηκε ως ένα από τα τέσσερα μεγάλα ονόματα του αμερικάνικου thrash metal (The Big Four) μαζί με τους (Metallica, Megadeth και Slayer).

Το 1995, ο Σπιτζ αποχώρησε από τους Anthrax, θέλοντας να μην συνεχίσει την μουσική του καριέρα. Παρακολούθησε εκπαιδευτικό πρόγραμμα ωρολογοποιίας και άνοιξε δικό του κατάστημα επιδιόρθωσης ωρολογίων.[1]

Το 2000, προσηλυτίστηκε τον Χριστιανισμό και παντρεύτηκε την Κάντι Σπιτζ. [2] Τον Απρίλιο του 2005, οι Anthrax ανακοίνωσαν την επανένωση της σύνθεσης που είχε ηχογραφήσει το άλμπουμ "Among the Living" το 1987, με τον Σπιτζ στην σόλο κιθάρα.[3] Περιόδευσαν σε όλο τον κόσμο και ηχογράφησαν το άλμπουμ "Alive 2". Μετά το τέλος της περιοδείας, ο Σπιτζ αποχώρησε και πάλι, δίνοντας την θέση του στον Ρομπ Κατζιάνο.

Το 2007, η Κάντι Σπιτζ γέννησε δίδυμα, τα οποία είχαν πρόβλημα αυτισμού. Το ζευγάρι είναι ενεργό μέλος του οργανισμού αντιμετώπισης του αυτισμού με την ονομασία "Autism Speaks".[4]

Τον Ιούνιο του 2009, ο Σπιτζ έπαθε καρδιακή προσβολή και αναγκάστηκε να υποβληθεί σε εγχείρηση τριπλού μπάι πας (bypass).[5]

Την επόμενη χρονιά, σχημάτισε τους Red Lamb μαζί με τον τραγουδιστή Ντον Τσάφιν και τον κιμπορντίστα Κρις Βρένα, κυκλοφορώντας το ομώνυμο άλμπουμ σε παραγωγή του Ντέιβ Μαστέιν.[6] Το άλμπουμ περιείχε το κομμάτι "Puzzle Box", το οποίο γυρίστηκε σε βίντεο κλιπ και αναφέρεται στον καθημερινό αγώνα μιας οικογένειας με αυτιστικά παιδιά.[7]

Τα Χριστούγεννα του 2013, ο Σπιτζ συνελήφθη με την υποψία της επίθεσης κατά της συζύγου του, η οποία δήλωσε ότι έγινε παρεξήγηση και οι κατηγορίες αποσύρθηκαν. Τρεις μήνες αργότερα, το ζευγάρι αποφάσισε να χωρίσει.[8]
