Leben

Paul Gooch besuchte die Schule in Cornwall und wurde durch die Teilnahme am Schultheater an der Maskenbildnerei interessiert. Nach der Schule ging er dann bei der British Broadcasting Corporation in die Lehre für Make-up und Haargestaltung.[1] Er wurde 2000 für seine Arbeit an Jason und der Kampf um das Goldene Vlies für einen Emmy Award nominiert.[2] Gooch arbeitete mit Tim Burton zusammen und gelangte so auch in die Filmbranche.[1] Zusammen mit Kevin Yagher, Peter Owen und Liz Tagg wurde er 2000 für die Arbeit an Burtons Sleepy Hollow von der Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild mit einem Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Award geehrt.[3]

Für Tim Burtons Alice im Wunderland war das weiße Haar für Anne Hathaways Rolle der Weißen Königin eine besondere Herausforderung[4] und er gestaltete die groteske Maske für Helena Bonham Carters Rolle[5]. Zusammen mit Valli O’Reilly wurde Gooch für Alice im Wunderland 2011 mit einem British Academy Film Awards für die beste Maske ausgezeichnet.[6] Er war als Maskenbildner bei der Produktion von Maleficent: Mächte der Finsternis beteiligt und wurde hierfür 2020 zusammen mit Arjen Tuiten und David White für den Oscar für das beste Make-up und Frisuren nominiert.[7]

Gooch wurde 2024 zusammen mit Adam James Phillips und Julia Vernon für die Arbeit an der Fernseh-Miniserie Mary & George erneut für einen Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Award nominiert[8] und wurde auch bei den British Academy Film Awards 2025 nominiert.[9]

Goochs Schaffen umfasst mehr als 60 Produktionen.
