Die Deckeniidae sind eine Familie der Krabben. Sie sind Süßwasserkrabben. Ihr Verbreitungsgebiet umfasst Westafrika (Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone), Ostafrika (Tansania, Kenia, Somalia) sowie die Seychellen und Madagaskar.[1]

Merkmale

Deckeniidae werden anhand des zweiten Gonopodiums von den anderen Potamoidea abgegrenzt. Im Querschnitt hat die Verbindung zwischen vorletztem und letzten Glied rückenseitig eine borstenartige, löffelähnliche Struktur. Der rückenseitige Rand des Endglieds fehlt bei Ansicht im Querschnitt entweder ganz oder ist reduziert. Das Endglied des zweiten Gonopodiums ist lang und ähnelt einer Geißel, sein bauchseitiger Rand ist zu einer Röhre gefaltet, die aber, im Gegensatz zu den Potamonautidae, niemals vollständig geschlossen ist.[1]
