Die DDR-Jugendliga 1978/79 war die dritte Spielzeit der 1976 eingeführten Jugendliga, die vom DFV durchgeführten höchsten Spielklasse der Altersklasse (AK) 14/15 auf dem Gebiet der DDR. Den 22. Jugendmeistertitel in der Geschichte der DDR sicherte sich der 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig, die zum dritten Mal zu Meisterehren kamen.

Teilnehmer und Modus

An der Jugendliga der Altersklasse (AK) 14/15 nahmen die zehn Fußballclubs sowie der ihnen gleichgestellten SG Dynamo Dresden teil. Spielberechtigt waren Spieler bis zum 15. Lebensjahr (Stichtag: 1. Juni 1963).[1] An 22 Spieltagen ermittelten die Mannschaften den DDR-Jugendmeister. Jede Mannschaft hatte in der Saison 10 Heim- und 10 Auswärtsspiele, jeweils einmal zu Hause und auswärts gegen jeden Gegner. Absteiger gab es in dieser Spielklasse nicht.
