Die A Grupa 1953 war die 29. Spielzeit der höchsten bulgarischen Fußballspielklasse. Meister wurde zum achten Mal DSO Dinamo Sofia.

Modus

Vor Saisonbeginn wurde entschieden, die bulgarische Nationalmannschaft in die Liga aufzunehmen. Das Team startete unter dem Namen Sboren otbor na DSO und sollte Spielpraxis für die bevorstehenden Qualifikationsspiele für die WM 1954 sammeln. Nach 13 Spielen stieg das Team aus der Liga aus und deren Spiele wurden annulliert. Spieler von den Spitzenklubs sowie der Trainer von OSG Sofia waren abkommandiert worden. Dies hatte auch Einfluss auf die Saison.

Die verbliebenen 15 Mannschaften spielten aufgeteilt in einer Hin- und einer Rückrunde jeweils zwei Mal gegeneinander. Da die folgende Spielzeit auf vierzehn Vereine reduziert wurde, stiegen alle Teams ab Platz zehn ab.
