Jijiga (amharisk: ጅጅጋ, Jijiga) er hovedstaden i regionen Somali i Etiopien. Den blev hovedstad i Somaliregionen i 1995 efter at den blev flyttet fra byen Gode. Den ligger i Fafan-zonen med 75 km vest for grænsen til Somaliland,[1][2] i en højde på 1.634 meter over havets overflade. Jigjiga er traditionelt sæde for Bartire Garad Wiil Waal (en) (Somalisk klanleder) fra Jidwaaq Absame.[3][4][5][6] Den internationale lufthavn er opkaldt efter ham.

Folketællingen i 2007 fra Etiopiens centrale statistiske agentur (CSA), viste at Jijiga havde en samlet befolkning på 203.588 mennesker, hvoraf 109.138 var mænd og 94.450 kvinder. Etniske grupper i byen omfatter somalierne (168.551, 82.79%), Amhara (16.837, 8.27%), Oromo (8.775, 4.31%) og Gurage (4.379, 2,15%); alle andre grupper udgjorde 2,48% af den samlede befolkning.[8] Medlemmer af somaliske klaner i Jijiga omfatter Jidwaaq, Akisho, Ogaden, Gadabuursi og Geri Koombe, og Sa'ad Musa underklanen af Habr Awal, med en mindre grupper fra nogle andre klaner som Sheekhaal.[9]

Seværdigheder

Talrige steder i nærheden af Jijiga har turistpotentiale, herunder en hule, der historisk set menes brugt af Garad Wiil Waal, og en moské, der stammer fra 1315 under Harlariget. Området omkring Jijiga byder også på naturskønne udsigter, der omfatter Hamran-bjerget i Awbare-woredaen. [10]
