Gweinidog Bedyddwyr o'r Unol Daleithiau ac un o arweinwyr y mudiad dros hawliau sifil i'r Americanwyr Affricanaidd oedd Ralph David Abernathy (11 Mawrth 1926 – 17 Ebrill 1990) a fu'n brif gynorthwywr Martin Luther King.

Ganed yn Linden, Alabama, a ffermwr oedd ei dad. Cafodd ei ordeinio'n weinidog yn Eglwys y Bedyddwyr ym 1948. Derbyniodd ei radd baglor mewn mathemateg o Brifysgol Daleithiol Alabama ym 1950, ac enillodd radd meistr mewn cymdeithaseg o Brifysgol Atlanta ym 1951.[1] Y flwyddyn honno, symudodd i Montgomery, Alabama, i fugeilio Eglwys Gyntaf y Bedyddwyr, ac yno cyfarfu â Martin Luther King a benodwyd yn weinidog ar eglwys arall yn y ddinas ychydig o flynyddoedd yn hwyrach. Ym 1955–56 cyd-drefnwyd boicot y bysiau ym Montgomery gan King ac Abernathy, ac arweiniai at dadarwahanu'r bysiau.

Ym 1957 sefydlwyd y Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) gyda King yn llywydd ac Abernathy yn ysgrifennydd-drysorydd. Ymsefydlodd Abernathy yn Atlanta, Georgia, ym 1961 i weinidogaethu, ac yn ddiweddarach y flwyddyn honno fe'i dyrchafwyd yn is-lywydd yr SCLC. Yn sgil llofruddiaeth King ym 1968, fe'i olynwyd yn llywydd yr SCLC gan Abernathy. Arweiniodd yr SCLC nes iddo ymddiswyddo ym 1977 a dychwelodd i weinidogaethu Eglwys y Bedyddwyr yn Atlanta.[1]

Cyhoeddwyd ei hunangofiant, And the Walls Came Tumbling Down, ym 1989. Bu farw o drawiad ar y galon yn yr ysbyty yn Atlanta yn 64 oed.[2]
