Y trefi mwyaf yw Mirina a Moudros. Mae amaethyddiaeth yn bwysig yma, ac mae gwin Lemnos yn adnabyddus.

Ym mytholeg Roeg, roedd yr ynys yn gysegredig i Hephaestus; dywedir iddo syrthio yma pan dafodd ei dad, Zews, ef o Fynydd Olympos.
