Yr efail (gefail) yw gweithdy’r gof, lle bydd haearn (neu fetel arall) yn cael ei gynhesu er mwyn ei wneud yn haws ei weithio neu ei drin. Ar ôl bod yn y tân i boethi am gyfnod, bydd yr haearn yn cael ei drosglwyddo i'r einion fel arfer, i gael ei forthwylio neu ei siapio mewn rhyw ffordd. Hyd at y bedwaredd ganrif ar bymtheg, roedd yr efail yn lle hollbwysig i gael offer neu i fynd i bedoli ceffylau, a byddai efail yn y rhan fwyaf o bentrefi ac ar eu pennau eu hunain hefyd ar ochr y ffyrdd prysuraf. Mae adlais o hynny yn yr enwau llefydd niferus sy'n cynnwys yr elfen 'efail', lle mae pentref cyfan wedi tyfu o gwmpas efail yn y gorffennol, gan gynnwys Efail-wen, Efail Isaf, Efail-fach ac Efailnewydd.
