    Mae ei hanes yn dywyll ond ymddengys ei bod hi'n iaith fyw hyd y 3g neu'r 4g. Erbyn hynny roedd Galatia yn dalaith o'r Ymerodraeth Rufeinig. Mae Sant Jerome, er enghraifft, yn cyfeirio ati ac yn dweud ei bod yn debyg iawn i iaith trigolion dinas Trier, er nad oes sicrwydd ei fod yn siarad o brofiad personol: "Galatias... propriam linguam eandem habere quam Treviros" ("Mae gan y Galatiaid eu hiaith eu hunain sydd fel iaith pobl Trier").
