Gwleidydd Democrataidd o'r Unol Daleithiau oedd Edward Irving "Ed" Koch (12 Rhagfyr 1924 – 1 Chwefror 2013) a wasanaethodd fel Maer Dinas Efrog Newydd o 1978 hyd 1989 [1] Gwasanaethodd hefyd yn aelod o Dŷ'r Cynrychiolwyr o 1969 i 1977.

Etholwyd Koch yn faer Dinas Efrog Newydd am y tro cyntaf yn 1977 a chafodd ei ail-ethol ym 1981 gyda 75% o'r bleidlais. Fe'i hetholwyd am drydydd tymor ym 1985, gan ennill 78% o'r bleidlais. Roedd ei drydydd tymor yn llawn sgandal ynghylch cysylltiadau gwleidyddol a thensiynau hiliol. Mewn ras agos, collodd rhagetholiad y Democratiaid ym 1989 i'w olynydd, David Dinkins.
