Cofnodwyd y dodo am y tro cyntaf ym 1598 gan forwyr Iseldiraidd.[1] Cafodd yr oedolion eu gor-hela gan forwyr a chafodd yr wyau a'r cywion eu bwyta gan foch, mwncïod a llygod mawr. Diflannodd yr adar olaf yn ystod ail hanner yr 17g.[1]
