Math o iaith raglennu ar gyfrifiadur yw cod gorchymyn; mae ieithoedd swp-brosesu a shell yn esiamplau.[1] Mae'r gair 'gorchymyn' yma yn nodi fod y cod yn dweud wrth y system i weithredu mewn rhyw fodd neu gilydd. Enghraifft ohono yw'r system gyfrifiadurol MS-DOS a arferid ei defnyddio i reoli cyfrifiaduron personol.

Gellir defnyddio'r ieithoedd hyn yn uniongyrchol ar y llinell orchymyn (command line), ond gallant hefyd otomeiddio tasgau a fyddai fel arfer yn cael eu perfformio â llaw yn y llinell orchymyn. Maent yn gwneud hyn ar y cyd gyda ieithoedd sgriptio, er bod yr iaith orchymyn, fel rheol, yn cysylltu'n cryfach â'r system weithredu sylfaenol.
