Mae Kurt Cobain,[2] Courtney Love, Belle and Sebastian a Renato Russo i gyd wedi cyfeirio at yr Young Marble Giants fel dylawnwad mawr.

Cychwynodd ei gyrfa gerddorol yn 1978 pan gychwynodd ganu gyda'r band Young Marble Giants.[3] Chwalodd y grwp yn 1981, a sefydlodd grwp jazz o'r enw 'Weekend' gyda Simon Emmerson (Booth) a Spike Williams, gan ryddhau albwm La Varieté yn 1982 ac EP byw Live at Ronnie Scott's, y flwyddyn ddilynol.[3][4]

Cafodd seibiant o ganu am ychydig pan ddychwelodd i Gaerdydd i'w hyfforddi fel meddyg esgyrn a dysgu t'ai chi.[3]

Dychwelodd at gerddoriaeth yn hwyr yn y 1980au gan ryddhau dwy recordiad gyda'r gitarydd Ian Devine, sef Devine and Statton, The Prince of Wales (1989) a Cardiffians (1990).[5][6][7]
