La passiflora (Passiflora)[1] és un gènere de plantesangiospermes de la família de les passifloràcies (Passifloraceae). Són plantes natives de les zones tropicals i subtropicals d'Àsia, el Pacific sud-occidental, Austràlia, i Amèrica. Algunes espècies han estat introduïdes a altres zones, com ara Europa i especialment a l'Àfrica.[2]
Les espècies d'aquest gènere adopten principalment la forma de liana o de planta enfiladissa i en alguns casos són arbusts o plantes herbàcies.
Taxonomia
Aquest gènere va ser publicat per primer cop l'any 1753 al segon volum de l'obra Species Plantarum del botànic suec Carl von Linné (1707-1778).[3][4]
Les passioneres tenen una estructura floral única i molt característica i no els cal una abella de llengua llarga per a ser pol·linitzades. Les abelles xilocopes són actives pol·linitzadores. També la pol·linitzen vespes, borinots i ratpenats.
