Napothera és un gènere d'ocells passeriformes que ha patit recents reubicacions taxonòmiques. Fins fa poc classificat a la família dels timàlids (Timaliidae), actualment el COI el situa als pel·lornèids (Pellorneidae).[1][2] Aquest gènere va ser ampliat per incloure espècies anteriorment assignades a Rimator i Jabouilleia (Cai et al. 2019).[3][4] Es troben distribuïdes per la zona indomalaia[5] i principalment reben el nom comú de "turdina becuda".[6]

Taxonomia

El gènere Napothera va ser introduït el 1842 pel zoòleg britànic George Robert Gray per incloure una sola espècie, Myiothera epilepidota (Temminck, 1828) designada espècie tipus per monotípia.[7]

El nom del gènere prové del grec antic «ναπος/napos» que significa “barranc” que alhora deriva de «ναπη/napē» “fondalada”; i de «-θηρας/-thēras», “caçador” que deriva de «θηραω/thēraō», “caçar” i de «θηρ/thēr», «θηρος/thēros», “bèstia”, “animal”.[8]

Segons la classificació del Congrés Ornitològic Internacional (versió 15.1, 2025) el present gènere està format per sis espècies:[2]
