Lyginopteris és un gènere extingit de plantes de tiges de falguera amb llavors del Carbonífer superior amb una escorça externa molt distintiva d'esclerèides que forma un patró en secció transversal com els números romans de l'esfera d'un rellotge, sovint anomenada escorça d'Sparganum. Alguns Lyginopteris van ser parasitats per floridures aquàtiques, com ara Combresomyces.[1] Les seves restes s'han trobat a Europa i Amèrica del Nord.
