En zoologia i paleontologia dels vertebrats, l'esquelet postcranial és la part de l'esquelet que no correspon al crani.[1] Es compon de l'esquelet axial, que inclou les vèrtebres i les costelles, i l'esquelet apendicular, que inclou la cintura i les extremitats.[2]

En paleontologia, no sempre és del tot clar si un crani i un esquelet determinats pertanyen al mateix animal. Per exemple, el nemegtosaure és conegut únicament a partir d'un crani descobert a la mateixa formació que Opisthocoelicaudia, un parent proper representat exclusivament per material postcranial.[3]
