Nama belakangnya, K.D. adalah singkatan dari nama ayahnya Soedarma, Slamet Karto Dwijo, yang lahir di Ngawen pada tahun 1911. Ayahnya merupakan guru SD dan menjabat sebagai kepala SD Ngawen.
