Apianus és un cràter d'impacte lunar que es troba en les escarpades terres altes del centre-sud de la Lluna. Es troba al nord-est del cràter Aliacensis, i al nord-oest de Poisson. El cràter Krusenstern, molt desgastat, s'hi troba al costat de la vora oest-nord-oest.

La paret exterior del cràter s'ha desgastat i erosionat per impactes posteriors, i un parell de petits cràters se superposen a la vora d'Apianus cap al sud-est i nord-est. El cràter central té 63 quilòmetres de diàmetre i 2.080 metres de profunditat.^[1] El cràter satèl·lit en la vora sud-est Apianus B, és un membre d'un grup de cràters units que inclou a Apianus T i O. El sòl interior del cràter central Apianus és relativament llis i manca d'un pic central, encara que la superfície apareix una mica convexa. Només uns pocs cràters minúsculs marquen la superfície. ^[2]

Un bon nombre d'altres cràters propers pertanyen a Apianus.

El cràter és de l'època nectariana (de fa entre 3,92 a 3,85 milers de milions d'anys).

Apianus es diu així pel matemàtic i astrònom alemany del segle xvi Petrus Apianus. El nom s'aplica com a norma internacional oficial des de 1935, sent registrat per la Unió Astronòmica Internacional (UAI).^[3]
