Na Svjetskim prvenstvima u biatlonu, Synnøve Thoresen je nastupila tri puta u periodu 1989-1991. godine. Osvojila je dvije medalje i to jednu srebrnu na SP 1989. u austrijskom Feistritzu u ekipnoj utrci sa Elin Kristiansen, Anne Elvebakk i Monom Bollerud; te jednu bronzanu na SP 1991. u finskom Lahtiju u ekipnoj utrci sa Signe Trosten, Hildegunn Fossen i Unni Kristiansen. Najbolji plasman u nekoj od pojedinačnih disciplina bilo je 12-o mjesto u utrci sprinta na SP 1989.

Svjetski kup

Synnøve Thoresen je prvi put nastupila u Svjetskom kupu u sezoni 1987/1988. Te je sezone 15. marta 1988. godine ostvarila svoju prvu pobjedu u utrci sprinta u finskom Keuru ispred Nadežde Aleksijeve i Tuija Vuoksiala. U istom takmičenju sa Elin Kristiansen i Helgom Øvsthus pobijedila je u štafeti na 3 × 5 km. Njen najbolji rezultat u ukupnom plasmanu bilo je 11-o mjesto sezone 1988/89. Nastupala je u Svjetskom kupu do sezone 1991/92, te je nekoliko puta bila među deset najboljih u jednoj utrci.
