Вадзі-Хамамат — найкарацейшы маршрут з раёна Фіваў на ўзбярэжжа Чырвонага мора (гл. Эль-Кусейр)

Вадзі-Хамамат — перасохлае ў старажытнасці рэчышча правага прытоку Ніла — найкарацейшы шлях, які злучаў раён Фіваў з Чырвоным морам. У перыяд росквіту Старажытнага Егіпта праз гэту цясніну праходзілі караваны з золатам, меддзю, волавам і каменем, якія здабываліся ў наваколлях Вадзі-Хамамата.

Гэта месца найбольшай ва ўсім Егіпце колькасці наскальных надпісаў і малюнкаў. Іх рабілі ўдзельнікі экспедыцый, якія спыняліся ў даліне на шляху да Чырвонага мора, рабочыя, што здабывалі ў Вадзі-Хамамаце цёмны зеленаваты камень брэкчыю[1] ці золата ў суседняй даліне Вадзі-Фавахір[2] . Усяго ў даліне каля 2300 надпісаў і малюнкаў. Практычна ўсе надпісы знаходзяцца на паўднёвым схіле Вадзі-Хамамат[3].

Адзін з самых ранніх надпісаў у Вадзі-Хамамат распавядае пра экспедыцыю, арганізаваную фараонам Пепі I (2321—2287 гады да н.э.), каб здабыць каштоўны камень для ўпрыгажэння яго піраміды ў Сакары. У надпісе пералічаны імёны архітэктара, брыгадзіраў, скульптараў, пісцоў, скарбнікаў і капітанаў суднаў, якія ўдзельнічалі ў экспедыцыі.
